Six competing for Miss California Rodeo Salinas tiara

Six young ladies are in Salinas this week with the hope of taking home the title of Miss California Rodeo Salinas 2013.

The competition will start Wednesday. The winner will be crowned with a gold and silver tiara and matching belt buckle?during the opening performance of the 103rd California Rodeo Salinas on Thursday at 6 p.m. The California Rodeo Salinas will take place July 18-21.

The winner will represent the California Rodeo Salinas for an entire year, traveling to parades, rodeos and other events.

The contestants are: Jordenne Burns-Miss Rowell Ranch Rodeo, Taylor Howell-Miss Mother Lode Round Up, Carollann Rietta Scott-Miss Aqua Dulce Women?s Club, Erin Stueve-Miss Rodeo Oakdale, Grace Tobias-Miss San Benito Rodeo and Marin Wolgamott-Miss Cal Poly Rodeo.

The competition will consist of horsemanship, personality, appearance and scholastics. The contest winner will receive the title of Miss California Rodeo Salinas 2013, along with a $2,500 cash scholarship and two-horse trailer.

On Thursday, the 2012 Miss California Rodeo Salinas, Tracy Hinson, and the current Rodeo President, Benny Jefferson, will present the new Miss California Rodeo Salinas 2013 with her crown just before the rodeo starts.

Carollann Rietta Scott

Carollann Rietta Scott enters as Miss Aqua Dulce Women?s Club. The daughter of Ben and Tracey Scott is studying Journalism at the University of Arizona. She worked her way up from reporter to anchor of student campus television and upon graduation plans to do the same at a television station in California. Carollann started competing in Jr. Rodeo and placed on the state and national levels of Junior High and High School Rodeo. She dedicates herself to giving back to CHSRA as their Special Rodeo Coordinator and helping put on adapted rodeos for special needs children throughout California. Currently a member of the UA Rodeo Team, she has held offices, organized events and competed in breakaway roping, team roping and barrel racing. Carollann was nominated by the NIRA Grand Canyon Region for the Walt Garrison Award that is presented to rodeo students who exemplify integrity, commitment, loyalty, honesty, leadership and perseverance.
